The Horrors of National Health Care.

Wendy called our health care provider today to get something checked out.

They asked her if 9:00 a.m. TOMORROW was too early for her, or would she like something later in the day?

The Horror! The Horror! She has to wait a whole fifteen hours for an appointment!

You know what's horrible?

The misinformation spread by "news" organizations about health care in the rest of the civilized world.

Just so you know, this isn't a lone incident - it is always like this when we need help here. Which has been about 5 times now. I don't mean to offend any of my readers, but this is the reality of what health care is like in Europe. It is nothing like what is being portrayed in some media.

It is excellent.

    What?! You mean they couldn't make an appointment for the same day? Don't they know in this age of TwitMyFaceSpace we need everything right now?!

    Yesterday after school I noticed Izzy had a weird rash behind her ear. I called the doctor's to get it checked out and they had a cancellation later that day at 7pm. I booked her in, got seen on time, picked up the medicine this morning. All for free :)

    Can't ask for much better than that!
    I seriously cannot believe that Americans have managed without free healthcare for so long.

    It really shocked me when Kwip (from Darktide)'s wife had multiple sclerosis and no health insurance and was still working to pay her medical bills.

    That would never happen in England.

    that is only one side of nationalized healthcare though, the flipside is that the doctor is not free to make the millions that they would/could potentially make here in the US. The other thing is that US physicians must spend a fortune on malpractice insurance, this money goes into the coffers of the insurance companies, some of the largest wealthiest most powerful companies in the country, they in turn spend that money on lobbying to promote their causes, the cycle goes on.

Greed and the One Percenters

It is baffling, and sad, to me that part of the world thinks that profit > all, even at the expense of human dignity.  It gnaws at me every day when I go to a chain gas station or a McDonalds or any other place where I know corporate profits are > everything else in the world. Why can't McDonald's pays its workers more? We all know they can. We all can pay a dime more for a Big Mac. It's like this everywhere. In the UFC, Dana White was brilliant at bringing the sport to mainstream America and generating hundreds of millions of dollars for the Fertitta brothers, who were already billionaires. Magic

Wendy and I have just had a long talk. I am getting back into Magic and making a run for the title. My goal this time isn't going to be to get back on the Pro Tour, but to win a Pro Tour. Secret Force: Quest for the Pro Tour II will be available in early June. The reason for this is I need to proof the physical copy of the book that is sent to my house in Vermont and we will be there June 2nd. I will be playing Magic Online until we go home then playing physically anywhere I can find a game while there. When we return to Spain in September I will be playing at a local shop a half kilometer away and writing about playing Spanish Magic with a limited vocabulary.
